Increase your business with a web site and a strong marketing plan
March 16th, 2006

Some businesses currently have a web site and some do not. Not many web developers would say this, but the truth is, not all businesses need a web site. However, many should have a web site. When I say you 'should have a web site', it is not about just getting a web site designed and that is it. To truly make the most out of your web site, you must market the web site and have it work for you. You can turn it into your most valuable asset and source of business, no matter what type of business you do.

A perfect example is www.MillerandZois.com . Miller & Zois is a personal injury law firm located in Anne Arundel County. They had a web site when I first met with them. Ron Miller discussed how he wanted to do a simple redesign and add some new sections. He was getting approximately 300 unique visitors per month (there are tools that can be used for tracking how many visitors come to your web siFlash Coldfusion Resourceste and how they arrived there). The web site at that time just provided basic information about the firm. We sat down and discussed several different options for the site and created a marketing plan for the site. One of the main things we did was redesign their site to include more text relevant to the type of client he is trying to attract. By adding text and links on your web site, you allow the search engines such as Google and Yahoo, to gain additional information about your site. This information is used so that potential clients can find you easily. After Miller & Zois redesigned their website, they now receive more visitors per day than they used to receive per month and it is one of their main sources of new clients.

The common problem with most web sites is a lack of real information. It is vital to the success of a web site to have information that people want. If visitors go to your web site and see only your business name and your contact information, they will leave and never come back. Something needs to keep them there for the first time and keep them coming back. This doesn't have to be complicated. For example, the Jetty Dock Bar has a web site and that is updated every week with entertainment listings and has colorful animation. This keeps the audience entertained and informed with new, fresh content.

Along with new and updated text, your web site must be basic enough for everyone to be able to easily use and get. There are many key things that must be present and updated in order for your web site to work and maximize your business' potential.
