A blog is extremely benecial to increase traffic to your existing site, you may have heard that before - but why? This article will go over some of the basics on what a blog can do for you. There are many reasons that a blog can help your site, lets go over a few ways both technical and not technical benefits of an blog.

Bottom line is your blog is a seperate web site, hopefully you will keep it updated and people will read it. Those same people will then hopefully visit your site. The blog is linked heavily to your existing site and vice versa, they are designed from the ground up to worok together.

Search engines love sites that are updated frequently

This is something that we will conver in several articles over the next few weeks, adding content on a regular basis is something that search engines look at very closely. Lets put it this way; search engines index your site on a regular basis. Now what site are they going rank higher if they indexed two other wise equal sites and one was updated more frequently than the other? The more frequently site will of course win that battle. A blog is a very easy way that you can update your own site very easily. If you can send an email, you can update your own blog. Its my goal to update my blog everday, unforatunately this can sometime be a hard goal to make. However even if you fail at doing it everyday hopefully you can keep it updated a few times a week.

Ok so we have a our blog up and we are updating it, thats great news! Now what are we writing about? To answer that, lets think about how we want to be found. If I'm a personal injury lawyer in Maryland, then I am going to write about Personal Injury as much as possible. This is where it pays to be an expert in your field because you should be able to talk about it inteligently, hopefully what you say is also interesting to your viewers. Using the previous example, we do not want to only talk about personal injury, but also everything that is related. For example we would want to talk about car accidents, if we talk about car accidents lets also talk about common injuries of car accidents, common pit falls to avoid, etc. Anything that is related will help strengthen the main keywords you are going after.
