Flash Web Sites - What they are and how they can help you.
Tom Fitzgerald

Flash is a program our web designers utilize in producing animations with almost movie-like smoothness and resolution. Macromedia Flash web sites uses a "vector-based" method of rendering images, making them more smooth and crisp than traditional web graphics, and scalable to any size. These are high-impact graphics, best seen with a broadband connection. To get a first hand understanding of Flash and what a skilled web designer can do, you can look at some of the web sites that we have designed that take advantage of Macromedia's Flash plug in. Go to www.RideEntertainment.com - this site is 100% derived from using the Macromedia Flash plug in. One prominent feature you will notice is that you can navigate through each section of the site and a new page does not open up. Each section is preloaded when you click on it to keep loading times to a minimum.
Are you a developer? Want to learn to create Flash?

It's easier than you think, if you are interested in learning about Flash, learn it from the experts. We are currently creating a developer section for Macromedia Flash. It contains flash lessons, tutorials, and code examples to get you learning fast.

What are the advantages to a Flash Web Site?

  • Enhanced Visual Effects : Flash web sites are known for the way that they 'stick out' from normal web sites. Flash web sites typically have animation. Why is animation important? Customers remember visuals and an animation will definately 'stick out' in your viewers mind.
  • Decreased Load Times : Flash movies are very effecient at keeping file sizes to a minimum, however they are larger than a typical non-flash web site. They are still designed to load in parts and if designed properly can load very quickly. The best part about Flash is you can make it so only the parts you plan to view will download, basically the whole site doesn't download if you just need to view one section
  • Increased Video Support : Flash movies can play video with tons of options. It is very easy to use and to stream video along with adding controls so viewers can pause, rewind, etc.
  • Database Support : Now Flash can access a database to display information. This means you can have it display information dynamically instead of just information that does not change.

What is the downside to a full or near full Flash site? Flash sites are generally not recommended if your web site is text heavy because search engines struggle to index the text on Flash sites. Flash sites work best in showcasing web site that you want to bring extra attention to. For additional web sites we have designed that use Flash, visit www.TopEliminator.net and SkyCoaster.com

To see how Flash can supplement an existing web site visit www.PageTronics.com which is a normal web site with a Flash animation video.
